About the Inn

The house is a charming three level beach house built in the new Nags Head style by the owner, Mike McVearry back in 2005, offering four suites and two Nags Head Rental Homes for larger groups. The Sandbar also offers a relaxed environment where all are welcome, including your four-legged friends and your children for fun in the sun just steps from the beach. We provide a continental breakfast every morning from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and set up happy hour at 3:00 pm with wine, cheese, and crackers.

The Layout of the Bed and Breakfast

Our common area is on the first floor where there’s a living room and kitchen area that guests are free to use during their stay. You can enjoy a good
book, watch television or eat snacks out of the sun, or hang out just outside by the pool. We keep a small library of paperbacks to read and games to
play for rainy days when the kids get bored.

A full-size refrigerator, microwave, toaster, blender, and Keurig coffee maker are also available for your convenience. The Inn is fully air conditioned in the summer months and ceiling fans operate in each room of the house.

Step out of the living room onto a large patio that opens to a private gated pool accessible to all guests. We provide a charcoal grill, and a gas grill if
you feel like cooking out. We also have plenty of beach chairs and water toys that our guests are welcome to use, as well as a stand-up paddle board,
an ocean kayak and two beach cruisers. We can lend you a fishing pole or beach umbrella if you need one of those too. Enjoy the lazy hammock or
play a game of corn-hole.

We are located just across the street from the Atlantic Ocean and when the wind is blowing on shore you can hear the waves breaking on the beach
from the house. The view itself is obstructed by the sand dunes the Army Corps of Engineers built just after world war two to protect the area from
erosion and flooding during storms. The years later vacation homes were built in front of the dunes. Many guests who had hoped for an ocean view
usually aren’t disappointed when they see how close of a walk it is to the beach.

Owner of the Nags Head Rental Sandbar Bed and Breakfast

Meet the Owner

Mike and Blondie. They both enjoy backwater boating, live music and evening cocktails on the deck (not Blondie, of course, but she does like music). Ask Mike
about rates for a guided eco-tour on the waters of the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge if you would like to join them. You will witness local flora and
fauna, see the ghost town of Buffalo City and maybe even see an alligator or two.

Meet the Innkeeper

Our current Innkeeper, Andy McVearry, is a twenty-year veteran of the service industry and former Sommelier at Vintage Tavern in Suffolk Virginia. He’s also a former globe trekker who’s traveled all over North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Europe, but now that he has a wife, two lovely daughters, a dog, two cats and six chickens, he’s decided to settle down here in the Outer Banks and let the travelers come to him instead.

Something Fishy
Gift Shop

Located next door to the inn is Mike’s gift shop and long-time fixture on the Outer Banks, Something Fishy, where guests from the Inn receive a 10% discount on all purchases so be sure to drop by during your stay.

Beach House Rentals for the Entire Family

Mike also built and owns two houses directly behind the Inn, which is available for weekly rental from Saturday to Saturday and Sunday to Sunday. We also just added another smaller home for rent about a mile down the road in Kill Devil Hills. Take a look at the Sandbar's Vacation Rentals.
